3 in 30 Check-in - Week 1

This is the first check-in for the 3 in 30 Challenge. I had hoped to make some progress on each of the goals I set for January. However, my father passed away on Thursday, January 5th. His health took a dramatic decline on Sunday, January 1st; and I was with him at the nursing home since Sunday afternoon.

Staying all day and sleeping overnight in a nursing home is an experience in itself. I certainly gained a much greater appreciation for the hard work that the nurses and nurses aides do on behalf of all the residents there.

Although I didn't accomplish anything, really, towards my goals...I am hoping that next week I'll be able to start on them.

Below are the goals and what I've done so far towards reaching them.

3 Goals in January

1. Remove photographs from all photo albums and put in photo boxes. Although I began this process in 2011, I never completed it. My goal was to remove all the photographs so that the photo albums wouldn't continue to damage the images.

This week, I began going through albums and photographs that my father had in preparation for his vigil and funeral. I did get two photo boxes that are archival quality that I can begin putting my photographs in.

2. Thoroughly clean and repair the master bedroom. I made no progress on this goal.
3. Spend 15 minutes outside each day. Because of the instability of my father's and mother's health (both were staying in the same room at the nursing home), someone had to be with them all the time. On Tuesday, I was able to sneak away for a bit and go outside for some fresh air while my brother and sister watched my parents.

Then, on Thursday (the day my dad died), I spent some time outside...but not 15 minutes.

Friday I have spent all days indoors planning for the funeral, vigil, and going through photographs to create displays and/or a DVD.  I can't believe how quickly the day went by.

*~*~*~*~*~*

This, by far, has been a very unexpected way to begin the year. I had higher hopes that I would be making progress towards reaching my goals. Perhaps during the next few weeks I can catch up and reach them. Immediate issues need to be addressed first.

Oh dear, I'm so very sorry to hear about your father. How wonderful that you were able to be with him at the end.
