Go on a Nature Walk - Countdown to Christmas - Day 8

For the eighth day in the Countdown to Christmas, we took the dogs on a walk at a local state park. What was nice about this particular day was that it was during the week and in the winter - meaning we essentially had the park to ourselves.

It was a quiet, peaceful day. The air was crisp and pleasant. A perfect day for a walk.

The dogs enjoyed smelling all the new scents. We could see rabbit and pheasant tracks in the snow, so there were probably even more things that they were able to smell that we couldn't see.

We spotted some significant holes in trees, most likely left by pileated woodpeckers.

We walked from the forested area to the wetland area, and saw the cattails - most had burst open and were revealing their fluffy down interiors.

Heading back, we walked around a tree that had a huge hole in it a couple feet off the ground. Olivia wanted to see what was inside. It ended up being hollow with a space big enough for a child to sit in...or a small bear to hibernate in.

Going on a walk at the state park was a wonderful way to spend part of the morning.  We all agreed that we needed to come back again and go on another walk.
