Sunrise Smoothie

In the December 2004 issue of Midwest Living, there was a recipe for a Sunrise Smoothie. It's one that is served to guests at Sundara Inn and Spa in Wisconsin Dells.

Sunrise Smoothie that I made.

I've had this recipe now for over nine years and finally am getting around to trying it. I shouldn't have waited! This smoothie is very easy to make and absolutely delicious. It is one that we will definitely be making again.

This is how to make the Sunrise Smoothie:

1 cup orange juice
1 cup plain fat-free yogurt
1 cup fresh or unsweetened frozen strawberries
2 medium bananas, peeled, cut up and frozen
1 teaspoon ground flax seed, optional (we didn't use)
6-8 ice cubes
fresh strawberries, optional (we didn't use)

In a blender, combine juice, yogurt, frozen strawberries, bananas, and flax seed. Cover and blend until pureed.

With blender running, add ice cubes through feed tube, one cube at a time until desired consistency. If you would like to garnish with strawberries, you may do so.

Serves 3 or 4.

That sounds delicious! I need to order some yogurt next month and get back to making smoothies. You don't think of it as much in the wintertime. :)
