Window Star Mishaps - Summer of Color - Week 5

For the fifth week of Summer of Color, the color inspiration was Wild 'N Reckless Sherbet. Here are the colors that are associated with this flavor of sherbet (as done by Sherwin Williams' Chip It!:

I like this combination of purples, blues, and greens; and was very excited to work with them. However, when I looked at the translucent paper for making window stars, it is quite limited in comparison to all the beautiful shades of colors shown in the paint chips.

With only one shade of blue, one shade of purple, and two shades of green, here is a trio of stars I made:

I think the dark green looks better with the blue and green:

The light green just seems to get lost with the two darker shades of colors:

The following star pattern I've made before using both shades of green, blue, and purple. I like that version better for the same reason as noted above (the light green seems overpowered by the other two colors).

And then, I knew it was simply time to stop after these two mishaps:

Three dark colors - purple, blue, and emerald green - combined in a heavily-folded piece do not make a good combination.

"I can't see any light through it," Olivia said. "Maybe in the morning when the light is different, it will be better." (Such a tactful...and hopeful observation.)

"I think that's the best it's going to look, unfortunately," I said. "It's going in the garbage."

"What about that one?" Sophia pointed to the other one.

"That's garbage too. Do you see why?" I asked.

"Oh, yeah....that point isn't laying flat against the window. It's sticking up - like it has a bump. Oh...and there's a gap in the blue. The edges didn't match up perfectly in the center part."

"Yep..."

"It's like it's a malfunction," Sophia observed.

Hmmm...was she referring to me (like a window-star-making-machine) malfunctioning? Or was the star a result of malfunction of paper cutting, folding, and gluing?

Regardless...for some reason...the colors I was so excited to work with didn't yield what I envisioned. It's too bad...purple and green are two of my favorite colors.

Some weeks are like that - I can make the stars without any effort. And other weeks, the garbage can - rather than windows - gets the stars.

Perhaps the upcoming week my hands and eyes will cooperate more, and there will be some pretty stars to show.

That's the thing with creativity - it just doesn't always behave! I think the one in the second photo worked really well.

I hope you have more luck with next week's flavour.

The two stars are whimsy beautiful. I'm sorry about the other two stars :). Your daughters are so sweet too!. TFS the 'malfunction' story!. Hugs.

I find that often the things I get excited about turn out to be the ones that don't give me the best results so I know what you are saying, but I think these are quite lovely... lucky garbage can!!!!

These stars are so pretty. The first one reminds me of patchwork patterns.
