With temperatures soaring well into the 90s with dewpoints in the 70% range, it is uncomfortable to be outside...to say the least. What better week than to have a movie party at home? "Movie Party" also is the P52 Photo Challenge theme of the week.
Before Sophia, Olivia, and I started watching a movie, I made a batch of kettle corn.
I found a delicious recipe for it from Foodess that had been pinned. It tastes just like the kind that is sold at the county and state fair. Here's the recipe:
Ingredients:
• 1/4 cup canola oil
• 1/2 cup popping corn
• 1/4 cup granulated sugar
• salt, to taste (I used kosher salt)
Directions:
Drop 3 kernels of popping corn into the oil in a large heavy-bottomed, lidded pot over medium-high heat. Close the lid and wait till you hear three pops.
Quickly add remaining popping corn and sprinkle with sugar. Close the lid once again, and, wearing oven mitts, give it a good shake.
Cook, shaking the pot regularly, until there are more than a few seconds between pops. Remove from heat and leave lid on until popping stops completely.
Sprinkle with salt and stir with a big spoon. Be careful, as you are dealing with very hot sugar. Allow to cool 5-10 minutes before serving.

Another pin used the same amount of kernels, but used 1/4 cup sugar (e.g., raw, maple) and a few pinches of sea salt. The type of sugar used may change the flavor a bit, so it may be interesting to try a few different versions and compare the flavor.
Enjoy!

So, what movie did we watch? White Christmas. It was filmed in 1954; and stars Bing Crosby and Rosemary Clooney. Basically the movie is about two friends who are out of the Army and enjoying post-World War II life. As professional entertainers, they find a way to save the inn run by their beloved former general.
I remember when I first saw the movie. It was on late at night around Christmas. The costumes were so beautiful (even though the t.v. was in black and white). My sister, who also was taking dance lessons, liked pretty or elaborate costumes. So, I had to wake her up (even though she had been asleep for a couple of hours).
A few years ago, I introduced Sophia and Olivia to White Christmas; and both have watched the movie countless times. They even have some lines memorized from the musical as well as have favorite scenes they could watch over and over again.

Sounds delicious, I'll definitely try that recipe!
That sounds like a great recipe. Thanks for sharing.
I am more about savory flavours for popcorn, and lots of real butter melted over! Probably not too good for the arteries, but it tastes good!
Something about popcorn made in a pan on the stove that just makes it tastes enter! :)
What a fun night and a good movie!
I am reading everything, just so far behind not commenting on every post. :)
